About the lab

BotForge is an independent testing lab for AI website builders. That sentence carries three claims — independent, testing, lab — and this page exists so you can hold us to each of them.

Who we are

A small independent team of web practitioners — people who build, ship, and maintain websites for a living and got tired of reading reviews written by people who visibly don't. We don't publish staff bios with stock-photo headshots, and we won't invent personas to seem bigger than we are. What we'll show you instead is the work: the brief, the method, the sources, and the verification dates on every price. Between test passes we do what our readers do — build sites, argue about typography, and read pricing pages with a magnifying glass.

Why this lab exists

AI website builders are the most heavily marketed corner of the web-tools industry, and the marketing has a pattern: a cinematic demo, a price with an asterisk, and a comparison chart where the vendor wins every row. Meanwhile the coverage meant to referee all this often re-types the press release and calls it a review. The result is a category where a small business owner genuinely cannot tell, before paying, whether a tool can produce the site they need — which struck us as a fixable problem.

Our answer is a control variable. Every tool we cover is judged against the same standard brief — a five-page site for a fictional local coffee roaster — using the same five scoring dimensions, documented in full on how we test. The results roll up into one ranking of the best AI website builders, and every individual report shows its reasoning, not just its verdict.

We're equally strict about what we won't publish: measurements we didn't make, user quotes that don't exist, and prices we couldn't verify against a vendor's own live pricing page. Where a figure resists verification, our copy says so plainly.

How we stay independent

The site earns money through affiliate links, routed through /go/ so they're always visible for what they are. That revenue keeps the lab running, and it operates behind a firewall: no commission, no partnership, and no vendor relationship can change a score, a rank, or a caveat. The strongest guarantee, though, is the one you enforce. Every claim on this site is checkable: the prices cite billing terms, the scores cite a published method, and the reports state exactly what was assessed. If you catch an error, tell us — corrections ship fast here, and finding one is a service, not an insult.
