Every AI website builder ships with the same demo: a gorgeous site, assembled in seconds, for a business that doesn't exist. We wanted to know what happens when the business is specific, the content is boring, and the brief doesn't flex. So we built a bench and started testing.
What this lab is
BotForge is an independent testing lab for AI site generators. We're not a news desk, and we don't do press-release rewrites. Each tool on the bench is evaluated against the same job, on the plans real buyers would actually pay for, with every price checked against the vendor's live pricing page before we publish. When a number can't be verified, we say so in the copy rather than rounding it into a fact.
We're equally clear about what we don't do: no invented stopwatch timings, no fabricated user quotes, no performance scores we didn't measure. Our judgments stay at the level of what each product's documented flow, plans, and limits actually deliver — which, in a category this fond of asterisks, turns out to be plenty to rank on. If a figure can't be verified, it gets softened and labeled, not rounded up into a fact.
The standard brief
Our control variable is a five-page site for a fictional local coffee roaster: home, menu, about, wholesale, and contact. It's deliberately unglamorous. A menu forces structured, repeating content. A wholesale page forces a form and a business-to-business pitch. A contact page forces hours, a location, and the kind of details generative tools love to improvise. If a builder's flow can carry that brief, it can carry most small-business sites — and if it quietly swaps the wholesale page for a generic 'Services' template, that tells you something too.
How the scoring works
Every builder gets a score out of 10 across five dimensions: prompt fidelity, design quality, editability, publishing and hosting, and price honesty. The reasoning behind each dimension, the retest schedule, and the rules we hold ourselves to are documented in full on how we test. Two things never touch a score: whether a vendor talks to us, and whether a link on this site earns a commission.
The current leaderboard
As of August 2026, Framer AI leads the bench at 8.8/10 — the strongest design output of anything we've tested, sitting on a real publishing stack. Lovable holds second at 8.5/10 and becomes the obvious pick the moment a brief drifts from 'site' toward 'app', because it generates actual code. Hostinger AI takes third at 8.2/10 as the budget all-in-one, folding hosting, a domain, and email into a single bill.
Below the podium: Wix AI at 8.0 brings the deepest app ecosystem, Durable at 7.6 remains the fastest zero-effort site for local service businesses, and 10Web at 7.3 is the one to shortlist only if you specifically want WordPress underneath.
