Lovable — free code generation, on a meter

Lovable's free tier gives you 5 build credits a day, capped at 30 a month, plus 20 Cloud credits monthly for hosting-side features. No credit card, no expiry, publishing to a *.lovable.app subdomain, and — unusually generous, this — unlimited collaborators. For a tool that generates real application code, that's a substantial standing offer.

The catch is the meter. Five credits a day evaporates when you build by conversation, and credits feed both building and runtime AI features. Wix — free forever, ads forever

Wix runs the most durable free plan on the list: $0 forever, AI builder included, published to a username.wixsite.com address with Wix ads displayed on your pages. It never expires and never asks for payment details. As a permanent sandbox for the platform, it's excellent.

It's also the free tier we'd least like to show a paying customer. The subdomain format is long and awkward, and the ads amount to Wix advertising itself on your storefront, permanently. For a local service business that needs to exist online by this afternoon, it's the quickest zero-dollar route we've measured against the brief.

The AI caps are hard, though: 5 AI images and 10 AI chat messages per month, and Durable's branding stays on until you pay. But the site needs a paid plan to stay live afterward — AI Starter is $10/mo billed annually — so nothing you build is free in any lasting sense. Bench verdict, after running all four genuine free tiers against the roaster brief: Framer's is the one we'd actually live on. You get the real tool, a live URL, and nothing time-bombed — the AI credits run out, but the site and editor don't. Durable takes second on pure speed-to-existing, and its unlimited-traffic free hosting is a better deal than its modest AI caps suggest. Wix free works but the ads disqualify it as a storefront, and Lovable free is best read as an evaluation window on a paid decision.
